California Chocolate Brownies

1cuplight corn syrup
2ounceunsweetened chocolate (melted)
2 eggs (well beaten)
3⁄4cupcake flour
1⁄4teaspoonbaking powder
3⁄4cupnuts, chopped


Cream shortening until fluffy. Gradually beat in corn syrup until thoroughly mixed and light and fluffy. Stir in melted chocolate. Add eggs and vanilla.

Sift together cake flour, baking powder and salt. Add 1/4 cup at a time to creamed mixture. Fold in nuts. Pour in well-greased 8" square pan.

Bake in moderate oven (350F) 30 to 35 minutes, or until slight imprint remains when touched lightly with finger. Set pan on rack to cool completely. Frost with Vanilla Cream Icing, if desired. Cut in 2" squares.
