1cupunsalted butter
3⁄4cupbrown sugar (firmly packed)
2 eggs
2 1⁄4cupflour (sifted)
1teaspoonbaking soda
6ouncesemisweet chocolate chips or pieces

Cream butter until fluffy; gradually add sugars and beat until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla, mixing well.

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture and blend. Stir in chocolate pieces and nuts. Chill dough several hours or overnight.

Roll dough by teaspoonfuls between palms of hands and place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet. Flatten balls with fingertip to make flat rounds. Bake in moderate oven (350F degrees) 10 to 12 minutes, or until light golden brown. Cool a few minutes on baking sheets before removing to racks to cool. Makes about 6 1/2 dozen.

You may substitute margarine for the butter.

I used this recipe, but froze half the dough. Great chocolate chip cookies - even after the dough was frozen.
