InstructionsSoak the apples overnight in cold water; then chopped fine. Add them to the molasses and simmer slowly 1 hour. Cream the butter and sugar, add beaten eggs and mixed and sifted dry ingredients. Add the apple molasses mixture. Pour into a greased cake tin and bake. |

NotesOlder recipes and cookbooks tend not to give times or temperatures for baking. In this case it is up to the cook. We suggest about 30 minutes at a temperature of 350°F; if it isn't ready by then, check on your cake by inserting in the middle of it a toothpick or thin-bladed knife every 5 minutes after that. When the knife or toothpick are removed from the cake cleanly (nothing stuck to it), then the cake is ready. |
