InstructionsHeat oven to 350F. Sift flour and baking powder into large bowl. Work in butter with fingertips until texture of fine crumbs. Make a well in center of flour mixture. Lightly beat milk and egg in small bowl; pour into well, reserving 1 tablespoon of the liquid. Gradually work dry ingredients into liquid until rough dough is formed. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface. Knead gently until dough holds its shape. Roll dough out to 10x8-inch rectangle; transfer to baking sheet with large spatula. Using small sharp knife, score dough into 2-inch squares; do not cut through dough. Brush dough with the reserved milk and egg mixture. Bake until light brown, about 25 minutes. Break scones into squares and serve warm with jam. |
