Bittersweet Brownies

1 1⁄2cupall purpose flour
14tablespoonunsweetened cocoa (or 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons)
1 1⁄2teaspoonsalt
1teaspoonbaking powder
1 1⁄3cupbutter
4 eggs
1⁄4cupcorn syrup
2cupnuts (coarsely chopped and toasted)
  chocolate frosting


Heat oven to 350F. Grease 9x13-inch baking pan. Sift together flour, cocoa, salt and baking powder. Cream butter and sugar in mixing bowl. Add dry ingredients, mixing well. Beat in eggs, corn syrup and vanilla and mix thoroughly. Stir in nuts. Spread in prepared pan and bake 40 to 45 minutes, or until soft in center and edges are slightly firm. Do not overbake. Let cool completely before frosting and cutting into squares.
