Cranberry-Apple Crisp

1⁄2cupgranulated sugar
1teaspoonground cinnamon
1⁄2teaspoonground nutmeg
6cuptart apples (peeled and cubed)
1cupfresh cranberries (or frozen)
1⁄2cuplight corn syrup
1teaspoonorange peel (grated)
1⁄2cupuncooked oats (or chopped walnuts)
1⁄3cupbrown sugar (firmly packed)
1⁄4cupall-purpose flour
1⁄4cupbutter (or margarine)


Heat oven to 350F. In a large bowl, combine granulated sugar with cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add apples, cranberries, corn syrup, and orange peel; toss to mix. Spoon into a shallow 2-quart baking dish.

For topping, combine walnuts or uncooked oats with brown sugar and flour. With a pastry blender or fork, cut into butter until crumbly. Sprinkle topping over apple-cranberry mixture. Bake 50 minutes or until apples are tender and juices that bubble in the center are shiny and clear. Cool slightly and serve warm.
