Ingredients

1cupflour
1tablespoonbaking powder
1⁄8teaspoonsalt
3tablespoonshortening
2ounceunsweetened chocolate squares
1cupsugar
1 egg (well beaten)
1⁄2cupchopped nut meats
1teaspoonvanilla extract

Instructions

Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Melt shortening with chocolate over very low heat. Beat sugar into beaten egg; stir in melted chocolate and butter, then sifted flour. Stir in nuts and vanilla, and mix well. Spread batter very thin on a greased 17 x 14 baking sheet, and bake for 20 minutes or less. When cool, cut into squares.

Notes

You could also place a piece of baking parchment paper on the baking sheet to help release.

Any type of but will do; or you could leave them out.
