Soft and Chewy Cookies

3⁄4cuplight brown sugar (firmly packed)
1⁄2cupgranulated sugar
1⁄4cuplight corn syrup
1 egg
2teaspoonvanilla extract
2 1⁄2cupall-purpose flour
1teaspoonbaking soda
10ouncemorsels (any flavor)


Heat oven to 350F. In a large mixer bowl, beat butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add corn syrup, egg, and vanilla; beat well. Stir together flour, baking soda, and salt.

Gradually add flour mixture to butter mixture, blending well.

Fold in morsels; drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 - 10 minutes or until lightly browned and almost set. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. Cookies will be softer on second day.

To make chocolate cookies, decrease flour to 2-1/4 cups and add 1/4 cup cocoa.
